What’s in a Name? (pt 2)

Filed under: Friends — sempfs @ 12:31 am

The mre I think back about things another aspect of Jake floats into perspective. If you’ve seen the first Mortal Kombat movie, then you’ll remember the scene where Raiden tells Johnny Cage that he will rush into any fight just to prove himself; He’ll fight well, but foolishly… This is Jake. He’s all about proving to the world the he’s not a punk, in his words. From what I can understand, his definition of a punk is someone who is always ready to fight and does not know how to keep their mouth shut and just roll with a situation in order to not make waves. I have lost track of the number of times that he shot his mouth off and being the one outside looking in, I could tell that he made people very uncomfortable with some of his comments, some even hostile, but they, like me, know how to control themselves and walk away with escalating an already bad situation.

In the past two days, I have noticed that my gift of gab has returned. I have gottne back to where I can start or hold a conversation with anybody. I used to use this ability when I was in sales, but I can honestly say that just using it for pleasure is a lot more fun. Your mind doesn’t have to work overtime when you’re just talking with people for fun.

What’s in a Name?

Filed under: Friends — sempfs @ 12:10 am

I always state how amazed I am at humans and the acts in which they partake…and this is another instance that makes me go “Hmmm…” People spend so much time trying to emulate and become either a fictional character or a real person, but either way they will never be that person and it tears at them and forces them to do stupid things to try to accomplish an impossible goal. I love using Jake as an example…he’s given me so much to think and write about that I ought to write a book on our experiences and discussions. However, Jake has this idea that if he doesn’t bulk up he’s not attractive. He took so many different performance enhancers, fat burners, lean tabs, and the like that he would get sick or start bleeding almost every time. He couldn’t get it through his head that he was a small framed person and would likely do serious or permanent damage to himself trying to get somewhere he would never go. He even told me that at one point, if he wasn’t bulked up enough he was going to get pectoral implants. I just turned my head and bit my lip to keep from exploding into laughter. Granted, I used to be a big Michael Jordan fan…but I realized I would never be him, nor did I want his life. I played basketball because it was fun for me and my friends not because I was delirious into thinking I was someone that I wasn’t. If people would learn to be happy with the gifts and body that they were given this world would certainly be a better place. I guess that would also put a lot of people out of work…

One Wreck, Two Wrecks, Totaled!

Filed under: Personal — sempfs @ 4:59 pm

TotaledIt was a cold and bitter night when our two lone travelers encountered their first obstacle in their path towards home. It seems that Mother Nature deemed it necessary that the Great State of Texas receive some pristine ice on her expansive highways. As such, their truck lost traction around the town of Jarrell and skidded into a retaining wall. With much effort, they righted their truck and set about their way to the City of San Antonio for repairs and further transport to their final destinations. With much trepidation they continued on their way, only to encounter a great white bridge on the border of Bexar County. The great white bridge was not normally white, but the usual grey color, except this bridge was now covered with over two inches of ice! The brave driver released the gas pedal before entering the realm of the bridge, but alas, they were not to cross and only suffered the same fate as before, but with much greater damage to their truck than before. Now, they were stuck, dead in their tracks, facing the wrong way on the interstate with fluids running from the engine onto the shiny white and grey ice. Luckily for our travelers, no fuel was spilt. Orange triangles of a reflective nature were erected 10, 50, and 100 feet in front of their backwards truck and a small cluster of flares helped to warn those approaching of the danger that might befall them. Alas, other travellers did not heed the warnings and soon were skidding and performing 360 degree manuvers against their will. The fates smiled upon the others, for none of them suffered the same fate as our duo. Soon officers of law enforcement arrived at the behest of the lead driver in order to protect the scene and hopefully add to warning they had already established. The officers took noted and deemed that there was no fault and issued not a citation, even for the temporary closure of two lanes. Without much hesitation, a tow truck arrived and transported the wounded vehicle to a safe location off the main roadway and left our travelers to fend for themselves.

Well, I guess I better use this first post as an introduction to me and why this site is here.

Filed under: Personal — sempfs @ 6:26 pm

Let’s start with me: I am a 26 year old native Texan; born in San Antonio and just recently moved to Victoria. I am happily married for the past four years (well, almost four years; our anniversary is tomorrow) and with this wonderful woman I have two kids; Leo, 20 months and Reagan, 6 months. My mom has lived with me ever since my father passed away in 2001. Currently, I drive a big orange truck for Schneider; touring the world and renting out my time with my family. Eventually this will change, not sure when or how, but the time will come.

The reason this website is here is because I love to write. I wish I could dedicate myself to write a thousand words a day, but there are days when the words won’t flow and days when there’s not enough time. Hopefully, this site will catch everything else that manages to slip through the busy schedule that is my life. I have another blog, but I am a person that likes change and I feel limited by the other blog in ways of customization, expressionism, and it just feels kind of musty and old now. I am hoping that this one will breathe new life into my work. I plan on adding posts not just ceaseless rambles of mine, but comments on world events, politics, weather, life, philosophy, and whatever else the old grey matters flushes out.

I hope you enjoy what you read. If you did not enjoy what you read, I hope that it was either enlightening, entertaining, or thought provocative. I have left comments on for a reason, not for spam, but us to hold meaningful and adult conversations.

Alas, welcome to Scott and the Art of Writing!
